The Baby Shark star who appeared in the most-watched video in YouTube history has launched his first K-pop digital single, a decade after gaining worldwide fame as a child.
Park Geonroung, who featured in the iconic video when he was seven, is making his solo K-pop debut under the stage name “Baby Shark Boy” with backing from Pinkfong Company, which owns the copyright to the Baby Shark franchise.
“Baby Shark Dance” became a global sensation after its release in 2016. The video has now surpassed 17.2 billion views, making it the most-watched video in YouTube history.
The song’s popularity has extended far beyond YouTube. It has been played at the White House, received praise from US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and inspired countless parodies and a worldwide dance trend.
Reflecting on his return, Park said the song had brought happiness to people around the world and expressed gratitude that audiences still remembered him a decade after the video’s release.

Since his appearance in the viral hit, Park has continued working with Pinkfong and appeared in the company’s other productions.
His new digital single, “WAVE,” begins with the familiar Baby Shark melody before transitioning into an electropop track. Park also contributed to the song’s lyrics.
Park said he sees “WAVE” as the beginning of a longer musical journey rather than a one-time project. He hopes to explore different aspects of his creativity through music and other forms of content.
The release marks a new chapter for the former child star, who first became an international sensation through one of the internet’s biggest cultural phenomena.
