The Ashura Holidays in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be observed on June 25 and 26 after the provincial government announced public holidays for the 9th and 10th of Muharram across all government offices.
According to an official notification issued by the provincial Administration Department, the holidays were approved by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for Thursday, June 25, and Friday, June 26, 2026.
The notification states that the holidays will apply to all provincial government offices operating under both five-day and six-day workweek schedules.
The Administration Department issued the announcement through an official press release on June 23 and directed relevant authorities to ensure that the notification receives wide publicity through print and electronic media.
Ashura, observed on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, holds deep religious significance for Muslims and is marked throughout Pakistan with processions, majalis, religious gatherings and commemorative events.
Provincial authorities are expected to implement special administrative and security arrangements to facilitate religious observances and maintain public order during the two-day period.
The announcement provides clarity for government employees and the public ahead of the Muharram commemorations across the province.
