Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden says he is beginning to rediscover the form that established him as one of the Premier League’s standout players, with a recent scoring streak boosting his confidence ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with RB Leipzig.
Foden enjoyed a career-best 2023-24 season, scoring 27 goals in all competitions and winning both the Premier League Player of the Season award and the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year honour in 2024.
However, a subsequent dip in form affected his performances and ultimately cost him a place in England’s 2026 World Cup squad.
“Hopefully I can get back to that level,” Foden told reporters on Tuesday.
“I think I’m slightly starting to get back there now with my recent performances.”
Recent Goals Boost Foden’s Confidence
The 26-year-old scored his first Premier League goal of the season against Ipswich Town last month after serving a suspension following a red card in the Manchester derby.

He then delivered an impressive performance in the Champions League, scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist during Manchester City’s 5-1 victory over AEK Athens.
Foden said the break following his dismissal had helped him return with renewed focus and energy.
“I had the unfortunate red card against United. But the break did me good. I think I came back really fresh-minded and sharp,” he said.
The midfielder added that regular playing time and involvement in goals had helped him regain confidence and establish a rhythm.
“Being involved in goals gives you a lot of confidence and when you’re playing regularly as well you kind of just get into a rhythm and a groove,” he said.
Foden Focused on Manchester City
Foden also addressed his international future after missing out on England’s 2026 World Cup squad.
He revealed that he had not spoken to England manager Thomas Tuchel since being left out of the selection but remained focused on improving his performances for Manchester City.
“All I try and do really is focus on my own game and hopefully one day the call-up might come back,” he said.
Foden will now look to continue his return to form as Manchester City prepare for their Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.
