JICA Partnership took centre stage as Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Akihiko Tanaka to review ongoing development projects and explore new areas of collaboration.

Maryam Nawaz welcomed the JICA delegation to Lahore. During the meeting, both sides reviewed JICA-supported projects and discussed public welfare initiatives across Punjab.
Focus on Development Projects
The two sides assessed progress on water supply projects in Faisalabad. Additionally, they agreed to expand cooperation in education, healthcare, nutrition, women’s empowerment and human resource development.
Maryam Nawaz expressed interest in extending the Faisalabad model for water supply, sanitation and urban infrastructure to other cities in Punjab with JICA’s support.
Government Seeks Stronger Cooperation
Furthermore, the chief minister praised JICA’s contribution to maternal and child health, clean drinking water, quality education and gender equality.
She said the Punjab government values JICA’s support in technology transfer, professional training and institutional reforms. Moreover, she described education for girls and children in underserved communities as one of the government’s highest priorities.
JICA Reaffirms Commitment
JICA President Akihiko Tanaka reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Punjab government.
He said JICA will continue supporting Punjab in education, healthcare, women’s empowerment and human resource development.
