Italy-Pakistan Energy cooperation gained fresh momentum as the Consulate of Italy in Karachi reaffirmed its commitment to expanding commercial and economic ties with Pakistan’s energy sector. The announcement came during a Business Networking Symposium and Breakfast organized with the Italian Development Committee (IDC).

The event brought together senior representatives from Pakistan’s oil, gas and energy industries. Participants discussed investment opportunities, business collaboration and future partnerships between Italian and Pakistani companies.
Consul Highlights Pakistan’s Energy Reforms
Italian Consul Fabrizio Bielli thanked participants for bringing together key stakeholders from both countries. He said the energy sector remains a key driver of economic development.
Moreover, he noted that countries are working to balance energy security, economic growth and sustainability. Therefore, international cooperation has become more important than ever.
Bielli also praised Pakistan’s efforts to modernize its energy infrastructure. He pointed to planned investments in the refining, fertilizer and chemical sectors.
In addition, he welcomed the Cabinet Committee on Energy’s approval of amendments to the Pakistan Oil Refining Policy 2023. According to him, the reforms could unlock nearly US$5 billion in investment. They will also help local refineries produce cleaner fuels that meet international standards.
Innovation and Italian Expertise
The Consul highlighted Pakistan’s growing interest in coal gasification and advanced energy storage technologies. He said these initiatives will support a more resilient and diversified energy sector.
Meanwhile, Bielli said Italy is well-positioned to support Pakistan’s energy ambitions. Italian companies have extensive expertise in engineering, refining, petrochemicals, industrial technologies and power generation.
He also acknowledged the contributions of ENI, Dalmine, Tecnimont, Technip Energies and Nuovo Pignone. These companies have supported Pakistan’s industrial development for decades. Their continued presence also reflects confidence in the country’s long-term potential.
Private Sector Can Drive Growth
Bielli said Italy and Pakistan can further strengthen cooperation in technology, engineering and sustainable infrastructure.
However, he stressed that governments can only create opportunities. The private sector must turn those opportunities into investment, innovation and long-term economic growth.
Furthermore, he encouraged businesses in both countries to build stronger commercial partnerships.

In his concluding remarks, the Consul reaffirmed the Italian Mission’s commitment to expanding bilateral trade and industrial cooperation.
Afterward, participants attended a networking breakfast. They exchanged ideas, explored new business opportunities and discussed future collaboration.
