SMIU Impact Rankings improved in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, with Sindh Madressatul Islam University strengthening its global position through higher performance across several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the latest rankings, SMIU secured first place in Sindh and fifth nationally for SDG 15 – Life on Land. The university also ranked first in Sindh and seventh in Pakistan for SDG 14 – Life Below Water.
In SDG 13 – Climate Action, SMIU was placed fourth in Sindh and 18th nationwide. For SDG 4 – Quality Education, the university ranked ninth in Sindh and 32nd across Pakistan. It also secured 12th position in Sindh and 44th nationally in SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai congratulated the university’s faculty members and administrative staff on the achievement, saying the latest rankings reflect SMIU’s continued progress in academic excellence, research quality and sustainability initiatives.
He noted that the university had previously been placed in the 1500+ global category but has now advanced to the 1001–1500 bracket in the 2026 THE Impact Rankings, demonstrating significant institutional improvement.
Dr. Sahrai said participation in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings provides an international benchmark for evaluating university performance, enhances global research visibility, promotes international collaboration and supports continuous quality improvement.
He added that SMIU’s consistent progress across key Sustainable Development Goals reflects its commitment to quality education, environmental responsibility and sustainable development while strengthening its position among higher education institutions in Pakistan.
