KARACHI: A high-level delegation led by the Governor of Navoiy Region, Uzbekistan, Normat Tursunov, and Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev visited the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) to discuss bilateral trade opportunities in the leather industry.
The delegation was received by PTA Central Chairman Hamid Zahur and South Zone Chairman Dr. Danish Aman. During the meeting, Mr. Zahur highlighted the potential for Pakistani tanners to utilize Uzbekistan’s livestock resources while expanding the reach of finished leather products—including footwear, garments, and gloves—into the Uzbek market.
He further emphasized that Uzbekistan could serve as a strategic gateway for Pakistan’s leather industry to access wider markets in Central Asia and Russia.
Governor Tursunov briefed the association on business opportunities within the Navoiy Region, specifically noting the availability of livestock to support Pakistan’s leather production.
Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev informed participants that while six flights currently operate weekly from Lahore and Islamabad to Tashkent, efforts are underway to launch two weekly flights from Karachi in 2026. He noted that this enhanced connectivity would significantly bolster trade and people-to-people ties.
The Ambassador invited PTA members to visit Uzbekistan, assuring them of full facilitation and support from the Embassy. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Danish Aman.
