Special work-hour suspension and safety measures introduced in Karachi amid severe heatwave to protect workers’ health and well-being.
Karachi: In response to the ongoing severe heatwave in Karachi and rising health risks, UAE Consul General Dr. Bakheet Ateeq Alremeithi has announced special precautionary measures aimed at protecting workers from extreme weather conditions.
Under the new guidelines, work will be suspended daily from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Workers will also be provided with shaded rest areas, clean drinking water, and essential health and safety facilities to reduce exposure to heat-related risks.

The initiative comes as Karachi continues to experience intense temperatures, leading to increased cases of heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses, with hospitals reporting a rise in patients seeking emergency care.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Alremeithi stated that protecting workers during extreme weather conditions is a moral and humanitarian responsibility. He said the step reflects the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to human welfare, compassion, and dignity.
He further urged employers and institutions to adopt preventive safety measures and prioritize worker protection during the ongoing heatwave, emphasizing that safeguarding human life must remain the top priority.
