Shanghai Electric Highlights Community Welfare Commitment
A spokesperson for the Thar Block-1 Integrated Energy Project highlighted the importance of integrating community welfare with industrial development.
“Our vision at the Thar Block-1 Integrated Energy Project extends far beyond large-scale power generation and national energy security. True progress is measured by the tangible positive impact we leave in the daily lives of local communities,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the successful completion of the medical camp represented another meaningful step towards improving long-term health, dignity and future prospects for women and children in Thar.
Energy Development and Social Responsibility
The Thar Block-1 Integrated Energy Project operates under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) energy cooperation framework and plays a significant role in Pakistan’s power generation infrastructure.
The project comprises two high-parameter coal-fired generating units with a combined capacity of 1,320 megawatts (2x660MW), alongside an open-pit lignite mine with an annual production capacity of 7.8 million tonnes.

According to the project, its electricity generation supports more than four million households, while domestic energy production helps reduce dependence on expensive fuel imports and conserve foreign exchange reserves.
Shanghai Electric has also incorporated community engagement and social welfare initiatives into its operational approach, seeking to ensure that infrastructure development delivers benefits beyond electricity generation.
Supporting Sustainable Community Development
Shanghai Electric, a global provider of power generation equipment, industrial machinery and energy solutions, continues to combine industrial development with community-focused initiatives.
Through healthcare programmes and community engagement, the company aims to contribute to improved living conditions and sustainable development in areas surrounding its operations.
The successful conclusion of the three-day medical camp reinforces the Thar Block-1 Integrated Energy Project’s stated commitment to supporting local communities alongside Pakistan’s energy development.
