New Policy to Strengthen Travel and Tourism Ties Between Two Countries

Karachi: (Report By Shahnawaz Abbasi) In a major development for international travelers, the government of Sri Lanka has officially approved a complete waiver of tourist visa fees for Pakistani passport holders, offering a significant incentive for budget-friendly travel.

The new policy is set to take effect from May 25, 2026, and is part of Sri Lanka’s broader strategy to revive its tourism sector and attract more international visitors.

Pakistan Included in Select List of 40 Countries

Under the revised framework, Pakistan has been included among 40 countries whose citizens will benefit from the visa fee exemption for tourism purposes.

The decision, approved by Sri Lanka’s cabinet and parliament, is aimed at encouraging greater inflow of tourists to the island nation, known for its beaches, heritage sites, and cultural attractions.

Boost for Budget-Friendly Travel

Travel industry observers say the move is expected to make Sri Lanka a more attractive destination for Pakistani tourists, especially those seeking affordable international travel options.

The policy is also seen as a step toward strengthening bilateral tourism ties between the two countries and enhancing people-to-people connectivity.
