Sindh Government to Launch Skills Development Program in Women’s Jail

Karachi, Pakistan – Nadooz Vocational Training Institute (NBSVI) and Ministry of Women Development Launch Training Program

On Friday, August 10, 2024, the Nadooz Vocational Training Institute (NBSVI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Development, Government of Sindh, inaugurated a groundbreaking Skills Development Program at the Women’s Jail, Central Jail Karachi. This initiative received full support from IG Police and the Women’s Jail authorities.

Program Highlights and Objectives

Ms. Nadia Baloch, a founder member of NBSVI, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the Ministry of Women Development and its Minister, Ms. Shaheen Sher Ali, as well as the Department of Jails. She specifically thanked IG Jails Qazi Nazir Sahib, In-Charge Ms. Humira Qayyum, and the entire team for their dedication, which made the program possible.

The Skills Development Program is part of NBSVI’s ongoing efforts to empower women from lower-income groups. The initiative, which has been previously supported under various NEVTA programs, now extends its reach to incarcerated women. This three-month training program will offer courses in modern beautification techniques, including laser treatments, hydra facials, and other advanced skills, alongside traditional methods.

Empowering Women Through Modern Skills

The program aims to provide participants with both technical and traditional skills, enhancing their confidence and prospects for economic stability. Upon completion, the women will receive a certification that equips them with valuable skills for their future careers. This unique program has garnered appreciation from IG Prisons Qazi Nazir Sahib, who praised the initiative’s impact.

Future Prospects and Official Endorsements

Chief Guest Provincial Minister for Women’s Development Sindh, Shahina Sher Ali, emphasized the importance of continued skill development for women, including those in jails and victims of Darul Aman. She highlighted that the collaboration with Nadooz Vocational Training Institute will ensure systematic efforts in training and skill development.

The provincial minister also noted that the program aligns with the modern digital era’s priorities, promising future workshops and training sessions for women. Additionally, the initiative aims to offer more opportunities for women interested in the cosmetics and beautification industry.

Event Attendees and Support

The inauguration was attended by notable figures, including IG Prisons Qazi Nazir, Parliamentary Secretary for Women Development Syed Yasmin Shah, NBSVI Head Nadia Baloch, Rubina Brohi from Pathfinder International, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Counsel Member Ms. Sadia Baloch, and Ms. Lubna Shah of STEVTA. Jail Superintendent Ms. Humira Qaiyum also participated, underscoring their support for the program.

The event attracted media coverage and was well-received by the women of the jail, who expressed enthusiasm about the new training opportunities.
