PPP Leadership Stresses Unity at Karachi Meeting

Junaid Kafili

Karachi: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari presided over a meeting of the party’s parliamentary wing at Bilawal House on Sunday, attended by senior party leadership and Sindh government officials.

The meeting was also attended by Asif Ali Zardari, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, and Faryal Talpur, along with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, cabinet members and lawmakers.

Leadership Calls for Unity Amid Challenges

Addressing the meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari said the party was continuing the legacy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, stressing the need for unity in what he described as a challenging and “war-like” situation.

He expressed confidence in the performance of the Sindh government and directed lawmakers to remain actively engaged in public service, ensuring maximum relief to citizens despite prevailing difficulties.

Bilawal Backs Sindh Government Performance

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the global environment was marked by conflict and uncertainty, requiring political forces to demonstrate unity and cohesion.

He expressed satisfaction with the Sindh government’s performance, particularly commending Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for effectively representing the province amid multiple challenges.

Remarks on Gul Plaza Fire and Karachi Politics

Referring to the recent Gul Plaza fire incident, Bilawal said the party believed in addressing crises rather than exploiting them, adding that criticism of those responding to the tragedy was unwarranted.

He also defended Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, stating that he was being unfairly targeted for political reasons. Bilawal reiterated that development initiatives in Karachi would accelerate in the coming months.

Focus on Governance and Public Relief

The PPP leadership reaffirmed its commitment to governance and service delivery, stating that the Sindh government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would respond to criticism through performance.

Participants emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to address public challenges and maintain political stability in the province.
