Karachi: Sirajuddin Aziz unveiled his latest book, In God’s Words, at a formal launch ceremony held at Avari Towers

Karachi: Veteran banker, author and public policy thinker Sirajuddin Aziz unveiled his latest book, In God’s Words, at a formal launch ceremony held at Avari Towers on Monday, drawing scholars, professionals and readers interested in faith and ethics.

The publication offers a structured, question-and-answer exploration of the Holy Qur’an, encouraging readers to approach the divine text through reflection, historical context and informed understanding rather than fragmented or surface-level interpretations.

A call for thoughtful religious engagement

Speakers at the event said the book arrives at a time when religious discourse is often shaped by quick conclusions and selective readings. They noted that the work promotes patience, humility and deeper inquiry — qualities considered essential for meaningful engagement with scripture.

A panel discussion moderated by Tariq Bin Azad featured academics and practitioners including Dr. Syed M. Mehboobul Hasan Bukhari, Prof. Sadia Ansari, Dr. Muhammad Atif Aslam Rao, Irfan Siddiqui, Mirajuddin Aziz and the author himself. The panel examined the book’s methodology, particularly its emphasis on contextual interpretation and critical questioning.

Panel remarks

Former chief executive of Meezan Bank Limited, Irfan Siddiqui, described the book as a timely and constructive addition to contemporary Islamic scholarship. He said the work underscores reflection and intellectual discipline in understanding the Qur’an, especially in an age of information overload.

Author’s perspective

Speaking at the ceremony, Aziz said the book was inspired by a simple but profound idea: while the Qur’an offers enduring guidance, clarity depends on asking the right questions.

He explained that the project evolved from carefully framing those questions and allowing the text to respond within its own linguistic and historical context. “Understanding grows when inquiry is deliberate and thoughtful,” he told attendees.

About the author

Aziz currently serves as Pakistan’s Banking Ombudsman and has held senior leadership roles in multinational banks. Over the years, he has written extensively on leadership, governance and economic policy. His latest work continues his focus on clarity, context and disciplined analysis, now applied to religious study.

The event concluded with an interactive session, where participants welcomed the book as a meaningful contribution to contemporary faith-based literature.
