Education Foundation Sindh Sayeeda Leghari Highlights Free Education on Independence Day

Education Foundation Sindh (EFS) marked Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Government Boys and Girls Primary and Secondary School, Shireen Jinnah Colony Campus. The event highlighted efforts to expand access to free education and support students from underserved communities.

The ceremony brought together educationists, legal experts, community leaders, parents and students. It also recognised the philanthropic contribution of Sayeeda Leghari, CEO of Sukkur Beverages and benefactor of the school campus.

Education as Lasting Charity

Speaking at the event, Sayeeda Leghari described education as Sadqah-e-Jariya, or a lasting form of charity. She highlighted the importance of providing children with access to quality education regardless of their financial circumstances.

Leghari has supported the school through an 18-year adoption programme. During this period, her continued investment has helped develop the campus into an educational facility serving local families.

EFS Expands Education Across Sindh

Ghanwar Ali Leghari, Managing Director of EFS, praised Sayeeda Leghari for her continued commitment to education.

He also highlighted the foundation’s wider work across Sindh. EFS operates under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Sindh as chairman and the Education Minister as vice chairman.

According to the foundation, its education network supports more than 3,000 government and private schools across all districts of Sindh. These schools serve more than 1 million students.

Supporting Women and Minority Students

The foundation also focuses on women’s participation in education and employment. It employs around 30,000 teachers, including approximately 20,000 women.

EFS also supports about 300,000 female students and 100,000 minority students. Its programmes target remote and underserved areas across Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and coastal regions.

Furthermore, the foundation provides more than 4,000 full scholarships. These scholarships can include hostel accommodation, daily meals, uniforms, books, pocket money and transportation support.

The programme aims to help students continue their education through intermediate studies and beyond.

Students Celebrate Independence Day

The Independence Day ceremony concluded with flag hoisting and cultural performances by students. Organisers also distributed refreshments among participants.

The event combined celebrations of national independence with a message about the importance of education. Speakers emphasised that sustained investment in schooling can create opportunities for children while contributing to broader social development.
