SHINE Humanity Teachers Trained to Promote Health Education in Sindh Schools

Healthy Schools initiative by SHINE Humanity has trained 20 government school teachers to strengthen health education in schools across Sindh. The three-day programme took place in Gharo, Thatta, and included nine female and 11 male teachers from Government Boys Primary Cluster School and Government Girls Cluster School.

The pilot project aims to improve student health through practical education on hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention and overall wellbeing. It currently operates in District Thatta and will expand to other parts of Sindh.

Moreover, the programme provides age-appropriate health education for primary and secondary students. It also engages teachers, parents and school management committees to create healthier school environments.

Teachers Receive Practical Training

During the programme, teachers received training on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), disease prevention, first aid, nutrition, menstrual health management, mental wellbeing, child protection, life skills, substance abuse prevention, Health Clubs, community engagement and school action planning.

The sessions included demonstrations, role plays, group discussions and practical exercises. As a result, participants gained skills to promote healthy habits both inside classrooms and at home.

CEO Highlights Preventive Healthcare

SHINE Humanity Chief Executive Officer Faheem Khan said health is not only about treating illness but also about prevention, awareness and empowering communities to make healthier choices.

He added that investing in teachers means investing in every child who enters the classroom. He said trained teachers can help create safer, healthier and more supportive schools across rural communities.

Positive Results and Future Plans

Pre- and post-training assessments showed a clear improvement in teachers’ understanding of key health topics, especially WASH. The programme also increased participants’ confidence in delivering health education.

Teachers identified Mental Health and Child Protection as the most valuable sessions. They also recommended adding Eye Health to future training programmes.

SHINE Humanity said the initiative aims to reduce illness-related absenteeism, encourage healthier lifestyles and build stronger communities by improving health awareness from an early age.
