Karachi: Sindh Minister for Energy, Development, and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on making Sewage Treatment Plant-I (TP-I) functional under the S-III project.

The meeting was held at the Planning and Development Department’s committee room and was attended by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chairman P&D Board Najam Ahmad Shah, DG PPP Unit Asad Zamin, CEO Water Board Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, and other relevant officials.

Mayor Wahab and Chairman P&D briefed the meeting on current challenges affecting the pace of work. The ministers stressed that the treatment plant is urgently needed to meet the industrial sector’s water requirements and to protect marine life. They noted that over 400 million gallons of untreated sewage is discharged into the sea every day, polluting the coastline, contaminating seawater, and damaging mangroves that support marine breeding.

The ministers directed that all obstacles should be resolved immediately to ensure that TP-I becomes fully operational by August, as per the directive of the Chief Minister of Sindh.

Officials assured that completion of the S-III project will benefit over 3,500 industrial units that require more than 40 million gallons of water daily, resolving several key issues faced by the sector.
