Karachi — On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Sindh Government spokesperson Sukhdev Hemnani paid tribute to journalists and media organizations, recognizing their essential role in strengthening democracy, promoting accountability, and informing the public.
In his message issued on Saturday, Hemnani said World Press Freedom Day is observed globally to highlight the indispensable role of media in society and to acknowledge the importance of protecting press freedom.
“Today is a day to recognize the vital role journalists play in upholding truth and ensuring the free flow of information,” he said, adding that the occasion also provides an opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced by journalists and media institutions.
The spokesperson stated that Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have consistently supported press freedom and the rights of journalists.
According to Hemnani, the Pakistan Peoples Party has always played a significant role in promoting freedom of expression and safeguarding democratic values in the country.
He emphasized that journalists and media organizations are essential pillars of the democratic process, contributing to the development of an informed and conscious society while ensuring transparency and accountability.
“We respect the indispensable role of journalists in informing the public and holding those in power accountable,” he said.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment, Hemnani stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party would continue to advocate for media freedom and the protection of journalists’ rights.
World Press Freedom Day is observed annually on May 3 to raise awareness about the importance of a free and independent press worldwide.
