Speaking at the Karachi Press Club, DIG Traffic Karachi Pir Muhammad Shah said the department is also preparing to remove ching-chi rickshaws from major roads. He said the move will improve traffic flow and enhance road safety.

Meanwhile, Shah acknowledged that some motorists have faced problems with the e-challan system. He said the department is drafting a new policy to resolve those issues. He explained that the automated system generates e-challans without manual intervention, which can occasionally lead to errors.

Furthermore, Shah said lane markings and the e-challan system have already improved traffic management in Karachi. However, he stressed that authorities will continue introducing measures to make roads safer and more efficient.

He also revealed that 164 people lost their lives in accidents involving heavy vehicles in Karachi last year. Therefore, the department is strengthening enforcement to reduce road fatalities.

In addition, Shah said official records show that nearly 45,000 vehicles remain registered under the names of their previous owners. He added that authorities have taken action against several individuals over the issue, while some suspects have been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.
