Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed the federal government’s resolve to completely eradicate terrorism, saying coordinated efforts by provinces, institutions and the public were essential to ensure lasting peace and stability.

Chairing a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad, the prime minister said the government remained united in tackling security challenges, particularly following recent militant incidents in Balochistan.

The cabinet offered Fateha for citizens, security personnel and law enforcement officials martyred in recent attacks, and also prayed for the late President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood.

Kashmir solidarity reaffirmed

Marking Kashmir Solidarity Day, the prime minister expressed Pakistan’s continued political and moral support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said the government and nation stood firmly with Kashmiris in their struggle for their rights.

Focus on federal–provincial coordination

Referring to his recent meeting with the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr Sharif described the discussion as constructive and stressed that close coordination between the federation and provinces was vital for development and national progress.

He said cooperation and harmony among all stakeholders would strengthen governance and economic stability.

Cabinet approvals and governance measures

The federal cabinet granted principled approval to decisions taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) at its February 3 meeting. It also endorsed recommendations of the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases (CCLC) from their respective recent sessions.

The prime minister directed heads of government institutions to ensure complete and accurate information in summaries presented to the cabinet. He instructed authorized officers to personally attend meetings to enable informed and transparent decision-making.

Diplomatic engagements and sports decision

The cabinet was also briefed on Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements with friendly countries, including the recent visit of Kazakhstan’s president and the upcoming visit of Uzbekistan’s president.

Mr Sharif informed members that Pakistan, in solidarity with Bangladesh, had decided not to play a bilateral match against India in the T20 World Cup.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to national unity, improved inter-provincial coordination, and sustained efforts to strengthen peace, economic stability and development nationwide.
