Riyadh: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF), emphasizing the country’s commitment to economic stability, investment growth, and digital transformation.
The prime minister met with WEF President and CEO Børge Brende in Riyadh on the sidelines of the 9th Future Investment Initiative (FII). The meeting, held at the WEF leadership’s request, served to formally invite the premier to the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos, scheduled for January 2026.
Thanking the WEF leadership for the invitation, Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan would be “well represented at Davos next year.”
During the discussion, he highlighted the government’s structural economic reforms focused on fiscal discipline, stabilization, and attracting investment. The premier expressed satisfaction over improved macroeconomic indicators in the past 18 months, noting that the government’s next phase of reforms would prioritize export-led growth, public-private partnerships, and expanding the country’s IT sector.
He also welcomed WEF’s partnership on resilient food systems—an area crucial to Pakistan’s agrarian economy—and underscored that peace remains essential for prosperity. “Pakistan serves as a bridge connecting South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East,” he added.
Børge Brende thanked the prime minister for Pakistan’s active engagement with WEF and expressed optimism for continued collaboration in advancing mutually beneficial global initiatives.
Leading academics and educationists will discuss Quaid-e-Azam’s vision and its relevance for Pakistan’s emerging leaders.
