PM Shehbaz Condemns Missile and Drone Attacks on UAE Civil Infrastructure, Urges Regional Peace and Ceasefire Compliance

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday strongly condemned recent missile and drone attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), expressing Pakistan’s full solidarity with the Emirati leadership and people.

In a post on social media platform X, the prime minister stated that Pakistan stands firmly with the UAE government and its President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during this difficult time. He stressed the importance of maintaining and respecting the ceasefire in order to create space for diplomatic engagement and long-term peace in the region.

The statement comes after the UAE reported that its territory, including the strategic Fujairah energy hub, was targeted in strikes allegedly linked to Iran. According to UAE authorities, the attacks injured three Indian nationals and were described as a serious escalation and unacceptable violation of sovereignty. The UAE foreign ministry warned that it reserves the right to respond.

Iranian state media, however, reported that military officials confirmed strikes on the UAE, stating they were carried out in response to what Tehran described as “US military adventurism.”

The incident has raised fresh concerns over regional stability, particularly in the Gulf, where tensions had temporarily eased following a Pakistani-mediated ceasefire between Washington and Tehran that took effect on April 8.

The Fujairah region, located outside the Strait of Hormuz, serves as a critical alternative route for global oil exports, making it a strategically significant energy hub. This is not the first time the area has been targeted, as a previous drone attack in March had disrupted operations at the Port of Fujairah.

India also condemned the latest incident, calling for an immediate halt to hostilities and urging uninterrupted maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz in line with international law. The Indian foreign ministry emphasized the need for free navigation and expressed readiness to support diplomatic efforts for peaceful resolution.

The situation has once again highlighted growing concerns over maritime security, energy supply routes, and regional geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
