Lahore: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif commended Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for his firm position on hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. The tournament is scheduled for February-March, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused to send its team, citing non-issuance of a no-objection certificate (NOC) from its government.

During a meeting at the prime minister’s residence on Sunday, Naqvi briefed PM Shehbaz on the developments. The BCCI proposed a hybrid model, suggesting Indian matches and the final be played in a neutral venue such as the UAE. In response, Naqvi urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to extend similar concessions to Pakistan for ICC events in India.

PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed strong support for Naqvi, stating that his stance resonates with the sentiments of 240 million Pakistanis. “Pakistan’s prestige is paramount; everything else is secondary,” the premier asserted.

PM Shehbaz’s Other Meetings
The prime minister also met Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, Advisor Rana Sanaullah, and several political leaders, including MNAs Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhinder and Azhar Qayyum Nahra. Discussions covered provincial government affairs, constituency matters, and the country’s overall situation.

Later, PM Shehbaz visited the residence of MNA Mohammad Raza Hayat Hiraj to offer condolences on the passing of his father. He prayed for the departed soul and offered support to the grieving family.
