PCB Issues Legal Notice to Pakistani Fast Bowler Over Social Media Controversy

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a show-cause notice to RawalPindiz fast bowler Naseem Shah following a controversial social media post targeting Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The controversy emerged during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) season at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, where Maryam Nawaz attended as the chief guest. During the ceremony, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi welcomed her and introduced her to franchise owners and players.

Shortly after, a post from Naseem Shah’s account on X (formerly Twitter) gained traction online. The now-deleted post questioned the protocol given to the chief minister, drawing mixed reactions across social media and sparking a wider debate among fans.

Naseem Shah later distanced himself from the post, claiming that his account had been compromised. In a follow-up statement, he said the account was recently hacked and has since been recovered, suggesting the message did not reflect his personal views.

Despite the clarification, the PCB has moved forward with disciplinary action, citing a potential breach of central contract terms as well as media policy regulations.

In an official statement, the board confirmed that a show-cause notice has been served under its disciplinary framework, requiring the player to submit a response within a specified timeframe. The PCB added that any further action will be determined after reviewing his reply.

The board reiterated its commitment to maintaining professional standards, contractual obligations, and the integrity of the game.

Naseem Shah is currently part of the RawalPindiz squad for PSL 11. However, his participation in the ongoing tournament could depend on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings.
