Karachi: The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 is in full swing, with all eyes on the highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India. While Pakistan is hosting the tournament, India will play all its matches in Dubai due to political tensions between the two nations. The two cricketing giants are set to face off in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

Pakistan’s Preparations & Squad Updates

Pakistan, led by Mohammad Rizwan, kicked off its campaign with a dominant win against New Zealand in Karachi. The team has been riding high on confidence after their recent Tri-Nation series victory at home. Rizwan’s stellar form has seen him climb to 15th in the ICC ODI rankings, boosted by an unbeaten 122 against South Africa. Salman Agha, the Player of the Series in the Tri-Nation event, has surged 24 places to 48th in the rankings.

Fast bowler Naseem Shah has also been in the spotlight, climbing to 45th in the ICC rankings. His ability to bowl with pace and precision will be crucial against India’s star-studded batting lineup.

India’s Squad & Dubai Matches

India, one of the tournament favorites, is playing its group-stage matches in Dubai. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, boasts a formidable batting lineup featuring top-ranked ODI batter Shubman Gill. Gill reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the latest ICC rankings after scoring a match-winning 112 against England. With 796 rating points, he surpassed Pakistan’s Babar Azam.

India enters the tournament with four batters in the top 10 of the ICC ODI rankings. Rohit Sharma is ranked third, Virat Kohli is sixth, while Shreyas Iyer, who recently moved up to ninth, adds further depth to the batting lineup.

Bangladesh’s Speed Sensation

Bangladesh’s rising pacer Nahid has made headlines ahead of his first ICC global event. Known for his raw pace, Nahid has impressed selectors with his ability to bowl consistently above 150 km/h. The young fast bowler first gained attention during Bangladesh’s Test series against Pakistan, where he dismissed key batters like Babar Azam, Shan Masood, and Saud Shakeel in quick succession.

Reflecting on his rapid rise, Nahid shared his excitement about playing in the Champions Trophy, stating, “The opportunity to play against the best cricketers in the world is the highest form of inspiration.”

Despite his growing reputation, Nahid remains grounded, crediting his early experience in first-class cricket for helping him adapt to the international stage. “I have learned that looking after your body and staying fit is the key to bowling quick,” he said, emphasizing his focus on rhythm and consistency rather than setting speed targets.

As Bangladesh prepares for their Group A clashes against hosts Pakistan and New Zealand, Nahid hopes to continue his fine form on the fast pitches of Karachi.

Global Rankings Shake-up & Exciting Matches Ahead

Several key players from other nations have also made strides in the latest rankings. South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen has moved to fourth, while Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand is now fifth. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has lost his No. 1 bowling rank to Sri Lanka’s Mahesh Theekshana.

With the Champions Trophy now underway, cricket fans are in for an exhilarating contest. The tournament promises thrilling encounters, star performances, and the chance for teams to etch their names in ODI history. As India battles in Dubai and Pakistan hosts the global event, the cricketing world watches with anticipation.
