Islamabad: Pakistan has successfully conducted a training launch of the surface-to-surface ballistic missile Abdali, capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads over a range of 450 kilometers, according to the military’s media wing. The test, aimed at validating the operational readiness and technical parameters of the missile system, was announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.

This successful missile test occurs amid escalating diplomatic and military tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following recent border skirmishes and political exchanges between the two nations.

In a statement of support, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the scientists and engineers involved in the successful test, praising their dedication to strengthening Pakistan’s strategic deterrence. Additionally, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and the Services Chiefs expressed confidence in the operational readiness and technical proficiency of Pakistan’s strategic forces.

The launch took place as part of Exercise INDUS and was focused on ensuring the missile’s operational readiness and validating key technical parameters such as its advanced navigation system and enhanced maneuverability features. The successful training launch was witnessed by senior officials, including the Commander Army Strategic Forces Command, as well as scientists and engineers from Pakistan’s strategic organizations.

The missile test comes just days after Pakistan’s military leadership reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peace while warning that any attempt to impose war would be met with a decisive response. The statement followed a Special Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) led by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, where the prevailing regional security situation, particularly the ongoing Pakistan-India tensions, was discussed in detail.

Pakistan’s defense officials made it clear that the nation remains committed to peace but will not hesitate to defend its sovereignty should the need arise.

This test follows accusations by India regarding the Pahalgam attack, which Pakistan has denied, providing evidence to refute the claim.
