Abu Dhabi: Pakistan underscored its commitment to modern, sustainable transport infrastructure at the ongoing Global Rail Conference and Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, where global policymakers and industry leaders gathered to shape the future of rail and connectivity.
Representing Pakistan, Mr. Kiyani participated in a high-level ministerial panel on “Building Connected Nations: The Role of Transport and Infrastructure in Sustainable Development.” He stressed that robust connectivity is vital for economic growth, job creation, and regional integration.
“Infrastructure and economic prosperity are intertwined,” Kiyani said, citing Pakistan’s achievements such as its motorway network, which has strengthened provincial connectivity and boosted freight movement.
He outlined Pakistan’s vision to modernize its railways into an efficient, reliable, and environmentally sustainable system. Key to this transformation, he noted, are the planned upgrades of two strategic corridors — ML-1 and ML-3 — which will enhance trade, connectivity, and align Pakistan’s network with international standards.
On the sidelines, Kiyani met with Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malak to discuss potential cooperation in freight logistics, technological exchange, and network development. He also visited the exhibition stalls of Etihad Rail and Hafeet Rail to review regional innovations in railway infrastructure.
Pakistan’s participation, officials said, reflects its commitment to sustainable transport solutions and forging strategic international partnerships to support long-term economic growth and regional connectivity.
