KARACHI: Pakistan Independence Day has prompted German Consul General Thomas E. Schultze to extend warm congratulations to the people of Pakistan while highlighting the longstanding friendship and growing partnership between Pakistan and Germany.
Schultze said the occasion offers an opportunity to celebrate Pakistan’s journey while recognising the resilience, ambition and diversity of its people.
He noted that Pakistan and Germany will mark 75 years of diplomatic relations on October 15, describing the milestone as an important chapter in the countries’ shared history.
Economic Ties Span More Than a Century
The German consul general said economic cooperation between the two countries dates back even further.
He recalled that Siemens opened its first office in Lahore in 1922, marking an early milestone in German commercial engagement with Pakistan.

According to Schultze, the enduring relationship rests on three key pillars: reliability, trust and sustainability.
He said Germany believes that long-term and sustainable relations create stronger partnerships and mutually beneficial opportunities.
Schultze also described Germany as Pakistan’s largest trading partner and the biggest importer of Pakistani goods within the European Union.
He noted that around 90% of Pakistan’s exports to the EU benefit from the GSP+ scheme, allowing them to enter the bloc duty-free.
Women Key to Pakistan’s Future
Looking ahead, Schultze said Pakistan’s future would depend not only on its institutions and businesses but also on its women.
He highlighted the role of Pakistani women in leadership, education, entrepreneurship and community development.
“Across the nation, women are leading, educating, building businesses, creating opportunities, and inspiring the next generation,” he said.
‘Pakistan Has a Special Place in My Heart’
Schultze said Pakistan had been his host country since last year and praised the warmth, hospitality and spirit of its people.
He said these qualities had given Pakistan a special place in his heart.
The German consul general expressed gratitude for the longstanding relationship between Germany and Pakistan and said he looked forward to further strengthening bilateral ties.
He concluded his message by wishing Pakistanis a happy Independence Day.
