Pakistan cuts petrol price again, diesel rate remains unchanged

Government reduces petrol price by Rs4 per litre in latest revision, marking fourth consecutive cut amid fluctuating global oil trends.

ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday once again reduced fuel prices, cutting the price of petrol by Rs4 per litre while keeping the price of high-speed diesel unchanged for the next fortnight.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division, the price of motor spirit (petrol) has been reduced to Rs377.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel will remain at Rs380.78 per litre.

The latest revision marks the fourth consecutive weekly reduction in petrol prices. Last week, the government had slashed fuel rates by Rs22 per litre, describing the move as an “Eid relief” for the public.

Officials said the successive adjustments reflect ongoing fluctuations in international oil markets, which have been impacted in recent months by regional instability and supply disruptions.

Earlier, global oil prices surged following geopolitical tensions, including attacks on Iran and subsequent disruptions in maritime shipping routes. The developments led to volatility in international crude supply and increased domestic fuel prices.

Over the past several months, Pakistan saw multiple upward revisions in petroleum prices, with rates crossing Rs400 per litre at one point. However, recent weeks have witnessed a reversal trend as global prices stabilized, allowing the government to pass on relief to consumers.

Authorities stated that further adjustments will continue to depend on global market conditions and exchange rate movements.

The Petroleum Division reaffirmed that the government remains committed to balancing fiscal requirements with public relief in fuel pricing decisions.
