Pakistan Announces Eid-ul-Adha Date After Moon Sighting Confirmation

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Declares Eid on May 27

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has officially announced that the moon of Zil-Hajj has been sighted, confirming that Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on Wednesday, May 27.

The announcement was made after a meeting held at the Pakistan Meteorological Department office in Karachi under the chairmanship of committee head Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, alongside zonal meetings in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar.

Official Confirmation After Nationwide Meetings

Following the deliberations, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon and stated that Eid-ul-Adha would fall on May 27. Earlier, he had indicated that the committee was in contact with regional bodies and would announce the decision once credible testimonies were received.

SUPARCO Prediction Matches Final Decision

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had earlier predicted favorable conditions for moon sighting on May 17, with astronomical data suggesting that the new moon would likely be visible in coastal areas under clear skies.

According to SUPARCO, Zil-Hajj 1447 Hijri is expected to begin on May 18, while Eid-ul-Adha is predicted for May 27, aligning with the final official announcement.

Astronomical Outlook Supported by Clear Conditions

SUPARCO noted that the moon’s age and visibility window indicated a strong likelihood of sighting, provided weather conditions remained clear and horizon visibility was good.

The agency also reiterated that while astronomical calculations provide guidance, the final decision rests with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee based on verified visual testimonies.
