Meanwhile, the Right Reverend Nadeem Kamran, Bishop of Lahore, presented a token of appreciation to Pathfinder. He praised the organisation for supporting church security, minority rights and interfaith harmony.

During the discussion, Prof. Dr. Huma Baqai highlighted Ikram Sehgal’s literary work and patriotism. She also paid tribute to his father’s legacy and the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces. According to her, the book presents a people-centred account of Pakistan’s geopolitical and economic transformation. Furthermore, it explores state-society relations, food security, education, population growth and equality.

Meanwhile, Air Marshal (Retd) Masood Akhtar said Pakistan has lacked a consistently implemented national security framework. He therefore stressed that the government must lead security planning through effective coordination among the Cabinet, ministries and the National Security Division.

Moreover, Gulmina Bilal Ahmad said the book goes beyond defence issues. Instead, it examines food security, climate change, taxation, cryptocurrency, education, skills development and human welfare.

Similarly, Dr. Salma Malik described national security as a broad national concept. She explained that economic stability, education, governance, technology and foreign policy all strengthen national security. In addition, she said traditional and non-traditional threats require equal attention.

Meanwhile, Brigadier (Retd) Mujahid Alam highlighted several welfare initiatives. These included Elenacare employee support programmes, assistance for bereaved families, the Providentia Books Foundation, the Pathfinder Interfaith Harmony Initiative and the Kashmala Welfare Center.

Likewise, Dr. Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq said human security remains the foundation of national security. He also praised Ikram Sehgal for his contributions to education, social welfare and mentorship through the Providentia Books initiative.

Furthermore, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi urged policymakers to acknowledge Pakistan’s challenges. He also called for practical solutions and stronger cooperation between political and military leadership. In addition, he encouraged Ikram Sehgal to document the stories of those who shaped Pakistan’s national security. Moreover, he said jobs, economic growth, constitutional governance, the rule of law and fundamental rights should define national security. Finally, he paid tribute to those who lost their lives fighting terrorism.

Similarly, General (Retd) Raheel Sharif described national security as a complex and multidimensional concept. He said the book stands out because of its focus on economic resilience, institutional strength and practical strategy. Moreover, he praised Ikram Sehgal’s military service, business leadership and international engagement. As a result, he described Sehgal’s career as an inspiration for younger generations.

Finally, Ikram Sehgal thanked the guests for attending the launch. He reflected on his personal journey, his father’s influence and his vision for Pakistan’s future. Overall, he said his faith in Allah, the support of those around him and his commitment to public service guided his achievements throughout life.
