Karachi: Sindh Minister for Energy, Planning, and Development, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, has assured protesting government employees that if salaries in Sindh are found to be lower than in other provinces, steps will be taken to bridge the gap.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of protesting workers at the Commissioner’s Office Karachi, Shah emphasized that the Sindh government has historically offered higher salary packages than other provinces. He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), especially under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari, has always prioritized generous raises and allowances for public servants.
The protesting delegation, representing the Sindh Employees Alliance (SEA), detailed their demands and requested immediate action. Shah listened attentively and urged them to end their sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club in light of the holy month of Muharram, suggesting that negotiations resume after Ashura.
Shah also announced the formation of a review committee headed by Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, with participation from Finance Department officials. The committee will assess the demands and submit its recommendations post-Ashura.
Also present were police and administration officials, SEA Chairman Haji M. Ashraf, and other representatives.
