SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Sunday that the company will rename its artificial intelligence unit SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI.
Musk confirmed the planned change in a reply to a user on X. The user had asked whether SpaceXAI would adopt the name SpaceXSI.
“Yes, we will make that change,” Musk replied.
The announcement follows US President Donald Trump’s recent push to replace the term “artificial intelligence” with “super intelligence” in US government communications.
SpaceX Name Change Still Pending
The SpaceXAI account on X had not changed its name when the announcement was reported.
Musk also did not provide a timeline for the rebranding. He gave no further details about whether the change would apply only to the public name or involve other parts of the business.

SpaceXAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment, according to Reuters.
Trump Pushes ‘Super Intelligence’ Term
Trump called for the terminology change during his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 22.
He said US government documents would use “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence.”
Trump later directed US government agencies to use the new terminology in official communications.
The move applies to the US government and does not require private companies to change their terminology. Musk’s planned SpaceX rebranding would therefore be a voluntary corporate decision.
What Does ‘Super Intelligence’ Mean?
The term “superintelligence” has a broader technical meaning in AI research.
Researchers generally use it to describe hypothetical systems that exceed human intellectual capabilities across a wide range of tasks.
Trump’s terminology change, however, uses “super intelligence” as a replacement label for artificial intelligence in government communications. It does not by itself establish that current AI systems have reached technical superintelligence.
The proposed SpaceXSI name would nevertheless align Musk’s AI business with the terminology promoted by the Trump administration.
Musk has previously backed Trump’s technology policies and has maintained a close public relationship with the president.
For now, SpaceXAI remains the unit’s publicly displayed name. The timing and scope of the proposed SpaceXSI rebranding remain unclear.
