New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell will move to a casual contract for the 2026-27 season as he pursues an opportunity in Australia’s Big Bash League, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said Monday.
Bracewell, 35, has played 105 matches for New Zealand across Test, ODI and T20I cricket.
He will remain part of the national setup and is set to feature in New Zealand’s limited-overs series against India this month.
Bracewell Chooses Flexible Contract
The casual contract system allows New Zealand players to pursue opportunities in overseas T20 leagues.
Players can still remain available for national selection under the arrangement.

Bracewell joins Mark Chapman, Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne and Tim Seifert among players using the system.
“As a white-ball only player, this felt like too good of an opportunity to pass up,” Bracewell said.
“I’m still very much committed to the Black Caps and can’t wait to be involved in the upcoming India tour and future white-ball series.”
Nick Kelly Added to Central Contract List
Batter Nick Kelly will replace Bracewell on New Zealand Cricket’s central contract list.
Bracewell has become an important part of New Zealand’s white-ball teams since making his international debut.
His move gives him greater flexibility to participate in franchise cricket while maintaining his commitment to the Black Caps.
The Big Bash League remains one of the leading domestic T20 competitions and attracts international players each season.
Bracewell’s availability for New Zealand’s upcoming white-ball fixtures means the move will not end his international career.
