Pilgrims visiting Masooma-e-Sindh Shrine in Agham Kot amid reports of halted construction and incomplete facilities.

Masooma-e-Sindh Shrine: Pilgrims face hardship as construction work stalls before Safar pilgrimage

Masooma-e-Sindh Shrine has become the centre of growing concern after construction work at the shrine in Agham Kot reportedly came to a halt, leaving thousands of pilgrims facing difficulties during the annual Safar pilgrimage.

According to a statement issued by religious leaders and organizers, hundreds of mourners (Azadars) travelling on foot to the shrine are encountering serious hardships because key development work remains unfinished.

The organizers have urged the Government of Sindh, the Auqaf Department, the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, NAB, and other relevant authorities to investigate the matter and ensure the immediate restoration of construction work.

Pilgrims continue arriving during peak season

The statement said walking pilgrimage caravans began reaching the shrine on 25 Muharram and will continue arriving until 21 Safar.

It added that seven to eight caravans, carrying thousands of men, women and children, reach the shrine each day after travelling long distances on foot.

Organizers alleged that authorities had failed to provide adequate facilities despite the large number of expected visitors.

Contractor accused of suspending work

According to the statement, the contractor had assured organizers that construction would be completed before the final week of Muharram.

However, they claimed the contractor left for a pilgrimage after assigning responsibilities to a site supervisor.

The organizers alleged that the supervisor then halted construction, sent workers on leave and announced that work would not resume until after Chehlum (Arbaeen).

The statement further claimed the supervisor insisted that construction would remain suspended regardless of complaints made to government officials.

Religious leaders demand immediate action

Several religious and community leaders condemned the situation and called for an urgent inquiry.

Those raising concerns included Allama Syed Aal-e-Ahmad Bilgrami, Allama Ayaz Ali Qumi, Agha Syed Mehr Ali Shah, Zawar Abdul Sattar Dars, Riaz Ali Syed, and Rah-e-Haq Academy Sindh Chief Organizer.

They urged the relevant authorities to investigate the allegations, hold those responsible accountable and ensure that pilgrims receive proper facilities during the ongoing pilgrimage season.
