Madiha Taha Showcases First Solo Sogetsu Ikebana Demonstration in Karachi

Rubina Khan

Karachi: Madiha Taha, Pakistan’s youngest certified Sogetsu Ikebana teacher, held her first solo demonstration of the Japanese art of flower arrangement at the Japanese Culture Center on September 24, 2025.

Themed “The Five Senses”, the presentation transported guests into a fairytale-like atmosphere. The immersive setup combined dimmed lighting, a short film documenting her Ikebana learning journey, and flower arrangements that reflected both simplicity and depth. Guests were invited to engage their senses — fragrances in the air, origami flowers to touch, candies to taste, and soft music to hear — alongside the visual beauty of her creations.

Each arrangement was crafted with purpose, telling a story while reflecting the philosophy of Sogetsu Ikebana, which emphasizes creativity and expression beyond traditional rules.

Taha, a graduate of IBA and an economist by profession, is also a mother of three. She has emerged as one of the youngest talents in Pakistan to receive certification as a Sogetsu Ikebana instructor.

Participants described the event as not only artistic but also an enriching learning experience, offering insight into the possibilities of Ikebana as a contemporary form of expression.
