LADIESFUND Empowers Female Engineers by Solarization Project

LADIESFUND Energy, in collaboration with Dawood

Global Foundation and celebrated a groundbreaking achievement.

Karachi: LADIESFUND Energy, in collaboration with Dawood Global Foundation (DGF) and the Ministry of Women Development, celebrated a landmark achievement. An all-female team of engineers, trained and certified by NED University, installed a 24 kW solar system with six lithium batteries on the rooftop of Hooseini Yateem Khana. This event marks Pakistan’s first solar roof installation by women and potentially the first all-female team solar roof installation globally.

Event Highlights and Details

The ceremony was held on the rooftop, showcasing the new solar panels. Attendees also had the opportunity to tour the orphanage and its affiliated school. This historic installation underscores LADIESFUND Energy’s dedication to empowering women and advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Training and Impact

LADIESFUND Energy Pvt. Ltd, as the Implementation Partner, designed the training program with support from KFW and developpp. Dr. Mohsin Aman led the training, using state-of-the-art equipment and a comprehensive curriculum. The program attracted over 86 applications, highlighting its significance and reach.

Future Plans and Expansion

Looking ahead, DGF plans to train a new group of female engineers from Interior Sindh. Experts, including Sir Hashim from K-Solar and Mr. Muhammad Fida, provided hands-on training. Tara Uzra Dawood, CEO of LADIESFUND Energy, emphasized the project’s dual goals: to train and hire female engineers and to contribute talent to the broader energy sector.

Community and Government Support

Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Mayor of Karachi, attended the ceremony and expressed pride in the achievement. He pledged to fund the training of 100 women engineers and support the development of a new vocational training school. Additionally, he encouraged LADIESFUND Energy to bid for projects aimed at solarizing KMC buildings.

Acknowledgements and Support

The event also saw support from notable figures such as Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah and Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. Other supporters, including Ayaz Dawood, Syed Kumail Hyder Shah, and representatives from the Sindh Ministry of Climate Change, also showed their backing.

Completion and Future Goals

The solar system installation is now complete, and the orphanage is powered by a hybrid solar battery and grid system. Tara Uzra Dawood confirmed that with ongoing support from DGF, LADIESFUND, and KfW DEG Impulse and developpp, the mission to empower female engineers and promote sustainable energy solutions will continue.
