Karachi Hosts Inaugural Justuju Learning Forum to Empower Local Communities

Karachi: The first-ever Justuju Learning Forum, a flagship initiative under the USAID Local Works program, successfully convened in Karachi today. Organized by the CHANAN Development Association (CDA) in partnership with organizations like Signify, Mehardad Art and Production, Hive Pakistan, Interactive Resource Center (IRC), Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO), and the Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP), the event aimed to foster an inclusive society and advance the USAID Local Works agenda of localization.

Focus on Karachi’s Diverse Communities

The forum, centered on the vibrant neighborhoods of Karachi, provided a platform to address local challenges, share knowledge, and develop innovative, community-led solutions. The agenda featured group discussions, interactive sessions, and a Dastangoi (storytelling) performance to honor Karachi’s rich cultural diversity.

Syed Hammad Naqvi, Regional Director of CDA, emphasized the forum’s mission, stating:
The USAID Local Works’ Justuju initiative is a testament to our belief in empowering local communities to take ownership of their unique challenges and opportunities.

Zain Baloch, CEO of Signify, highlighted Karachi’s potential, saying:
Karachi’s diversity is its greatest strength. Through mutual consultation, collaboration, and cohesion, we can design solutions that truly reflect the aspirations of the people.

A panel discussion moderated by Fahim Shad, CEO of Mehardad Art and Production, included thematic groups focused on youth, local governance, gender, minorities, and civil society. Fahim Shad remarked:
Art and dialogue are powerful tools to build bridges in fractured societies. This forum reflects that spirit of unity.

Dr. Muhammad Abdul Saboor, CEO of LPP, stressed the role of civil society, saying:
A robust civil society is the cornerstone of an inclusive and prosperous society. Our collective efforts today will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
