Japan Extends $100,000 Grant to Support Health and Education Projects in Sindh

Staff Reporter

Karachi: The Government of Japan has announced grant assistance worth nearly USD 99,967 (PKR 28.3 million) to support two community development projects in Sindh under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) program.

The grant agreements were signed on Thursday between Hattori Masaru, Consul General of Japan in Karachi, and representatives of the recipient organizations at a ceremony held at the Consulate-General of Japan.

The beneficiaries include the Muhammadi Haematology, Oncology Services & Welfare Foundation (Muhammadi Foundation) and the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto High School.

Under the agreement, the Muhammadi Foundation will receive USD 40,953 (PKR 11.6 million) to procure modern medical equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases in Karachi. The equipment will enhance the foundation’s capacity to screen up to 120 blood samples daily, enabling early detection and improved care for patients with hematological conditions.

Meanwhile, the Benazir Bhutto High School will receive USD 59,014 (PKR 16.7 million) for the construction of new classrooms, establishment of a fully equipped science laboratory, and acquisition of a transport vehicle to facilitate safe commuting for female students — an initiative aimed at promoting girls’ education in a secure environment.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Consul General Hattori commended the recipient organizations for their dedication to community service and expressed hope that the projects would contribute to sustainable social development in Sindh.

He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s grassroots initiatives, stating that Tokyo would continue providing “flexible and timely assistance” to improve healthcare, education, and overall human security in the country.
