Consulate General of Japan and Tokyo Foundation donate 110 books to promote academic exchange and cultural understanding.

KARACHI: The Consulate General of Japan in Karachi, in collaboration with the Tokyo Foundation, participated in a book handover ceremony at Greenwich University on Wednesday as part of the internationally recognized READ JAPAN PROJECT.

During the ceremony, Consul General of Japan in Karachi, HATTORI Masaru, formally presented a collection of 110 books to Greenwich University on behalf of the Tokyo Foundation. The donated titles cover a broad range of subjects, including Japanese history, art, politics, literature, and philosophy.

The READ JAPAN PROJECT is a cultural initiative supported by the Nippon Foundation and aims to promote a deeper global understanding of Japan through access to academic and cultural literature.

Addressing the ceremony, Consul General HATTORI emphasized the importance of educational and cultural exchanges in strengthening the longstanding relationship between Japan and Pakistan. He expressed hope that the donated collection would serve as a valuable resource for students, researchers, intellectuals, and opinion leaders interested in gaining a better understanding of Japan.

Speaking at the event, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Naveed Mughal appreciated the continued cooperation of the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi with Greenwich University. He stated that such partnerships contribute positively to academic development and cultural engagement.

Dr. Mughal also highlighted that Pakistan could draw valuable lessons in nation-building from Japan, describing Japanese society as among the most disciplined globally. He thanked both the Consulate-General of Japan and the Tokyo Foundation for their support and expressed hope for continued collaboration in the future.

Launched in 2008, the Tokyo Foundation’s READ JAPAN PROJECT has donated English-language books to libraries and research institutions worldwide. The initiative reflects Japan’s commitment to knowledge-sharing, cultural diplomacy, and strengthening international academic connections through access to quality literature.
