Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrives in Islamabad for high-level talks with Pakistan’s leadership
Iran Pakistan Relations entered a new phase of diplomatic engagement on Tuesday as Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad for a high-level official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The visit has been extended at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with President Pezeshkian leading a senior delegation comprising ministers and top government officials.
During his stay, the Iranian president is scheduled to hold formal meetings with Pakistan’s top leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He will also meet Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gillani, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
The discussions are expected to cover the full range of bilateral ties, including trade, energy cooperation, border security, regional connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides are also expected to review progress on commitments made under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and explore new avenues for economic and diplomatic collaboration.
Officials said regional and international developments will also be part of the agenda, with a shared focus on promoting peace and stability across the region.
The visit is being viewed as part of broader efforts to reinforce long-standing historical, cultural and strategic ties between Pakistan and Iran.
Diplomatic observers say the engagement reflects a continued push by both governments to translate political understanding into practical cooperation.
