Karachi: Diplomats from Malaysia and Russia highlighted the importance of cooperation between Pakistani institutions and their home countries during the two-day international nursing conference organized by Hamdard University (HU), which concluded on Tuesday. The event brought together experts from seven countries to discuss advancements in nursing and healthcare.

Tribute to Florence Nightingale and Professional Oath

Students from the Rufayda Hamdard School of Nursing (RHSN) commemorated Florence Nightingale by lighting lamps and taking their professional oath. These second-year students are now set to begin clinical training.

Focus on International Collaboration

Malaysian Consul General Herman Hardynata Ahmad emphasized Pakistan-Malaysia educational ties, noting the increasing number of Pakistani students pursuing higher education in Malaysia.

“Collaboration between countries is essential for progress,” remarked Ahmad, sharing that over 3,500 Pakistanis recently traveled to Malaysia for tourism, reflecting growing bilateral engagement.

Dr. Natalia Zhadovets from the Russian Consulate extended a similar message, inviting Pakistani students to explore opportunities at Russian universities, where language barriers are minimized through English-language programs.

Insights from Global Experts

Renowned nursing professionals, including Prof. Dr. Zahrah Saad and Prof. Dr. Said Nurumal from Malaysia, delivered in-person sessions, while experts like Dr. Parveen Ali (UK) and Ms. Veronica William (Australia) contributed virtually. The proceedings were broadcast live to seven countries, including India.

Remembering Hakim Mohammed Said

A Memorial Lecture by Mahtab Akbar Rashdi, Member of the National Assembly, honored HU’s Founder Chancellor Hakim Mohammed Said. Rashdi detailed his visionary projects and contributions to education and healthcare, describing him as a source of inspiration.

Leadership and Vision at HU

HU Chancellor Madam Sadia Rashid underscored the critical role of nurses in patient recovery, emphasizing their hands-on care beyond the roles of surgeons and physicians.

Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Syed Shabib-ul-Hasan lauded Hakim Mohammed Said’s disciplined and determined approach, highlighting how his personal savings were used to establish HU and other impactful initiatives. “His legacy guides our work every day,” he added.
