Karachi: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with key industry stakeholders, hosted the Indonesia-Pakistan Workshop on Palm Oil 2025. This significant event recognized Pakistan as a strategic partner in the global palm oil trade and reinforced a shared commitment to advancing sustainability in this vital sector.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The workshop, themed “Strengthening Sustainable Palm Oil for the World,” brought together distinguished delegates and experts from Indonesia and Pakistan. It aimed to bolster bilateral cooperation, address misconceptions, and emphasize the immense potential of palm oil as a sustainable resource.

In his address, Acting Consul General Mr. Teguh Wiweko expressed gratitude to the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), and the Palm Oil Suppliers Association of Pakistan (POSAP) for co-hosting the event. The workshop also explored avenues to deepen discussions, strengthen trade ties, and foster collaboration in the edible oil sector.

Pakistan: A Key Partner in Palm Oil Trade

Indonesia acknowledged Pakistan’s pivotal role in its palm oil exports, with 80-90% of Pakistan’s palm oil imports sourced from Indonesia. This partnership underscores the importance of sustainable practices and stable supply chains to meet growing demand.

Speakers addressed widespread myths about palm oil, particularly regarding its environmental and health impacts. Transparent and scientific discussions highlighted palm oil’s benefits and its role in meeting global needs sustainably.

Tackling Challenges and Promoting Sustainability

The event also examined challenges like stagnating oil palm production and rising domestic consumption in Indonesia. Discussions emphasized strategies for ensuring uninterrupted supply chains while prioritizing sustainability. Efforts to reduce deforestation, preserve biodiversity, promote responsible land use, and safeguard worker and community welfare were shared by Indonesian representatives.

Collaboration Ahead of PEOC 2025

The active participation of Indonesian delegates from GAPKI and CPOPC was timely, as it preceded the annual Pakistan Edible Oil Conference (PEOC) set for January 11. Indonesian representatives are scheduled to present key insights during the conference, furthering dialogue on sustainable palm oil trade.

The Indonesian Consulate extended gratitude to CPOPC, GAPKI, POSAP, and PEOC for facilitating meaningful discussions. These engagements position sustainable palm oil as a driver for economic growth and environmental stewardship in the global market.
