Indonesia Hosts Business Luncheon in Karachi to Boost Trade and Investment Ties with Pakistan

Business leaders explore opportunities in halal industry, energy, and digital economy

KARACHI (May 25, 2026) — The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi hosted a business luncheon titled “Taste of Opportunity: A Deep Dive into Indonesia Trade and Investment” at Wisma Indonesia, bringing together around 30 prominent business leaders, investors, and representatives from chambers and trade bodies across Pakistan.

The event aimed to strengthen trade, investment, and business-to-business linkages between the two countries, reflecting growing private sector interest in expanding economic cooperation.


Call for Stronger Economic Cooperation

Consul General Mudzakir emphasized that the platform was designed to promote direct dialogue and practical engagement between Indonesian and Pakistani stakeholders.

He highlighted the historical ties and economic complementarities between both countries, urging conversion of goodwill into tangible trade and investment outcomes.

He also pointed to Karachi’s strategic role as Pakistan’s commercial hub in advancing bilateral economic relations.


Indonesia Highlights Investment Opportunities

The Consul General outlined key sectors open for cooperation, including:

  • Renewable energy
  • Food security
  • Manufacturing
  • Digital economy
  • Halal industry
  • Infrastructure
  • Tourism

He noted Indonesia’s economic growth of 5.11% in 2025 and 5.61% in Q1 2026, driven by strong domestic demand and ongoing reforms.


Pakistan Business Community Response

Speaking on behalf of the business community, FPCCI Senior Vice President Saquib Fayyaz Magoon appreciated the initiative and highlighted untapped potential in bilateral trade.

He stressed stronger cooperation in sectors such as halal products, agriculture, textiles, technology, infrastructure, and investment.


Economic Diplomacy and Investment Promotion

Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director for South and Central Asia Ricky Eka Virgana Ichsan reaffirmed Indonesia’s focus on economic diplomacy and encouraged deeper commercial connectivity between both countries.

A detailed “Indonesia Updates” session presented upcoming initiatives, including:

  • Trade Expo Indonesia 2026
  • D-8 Halal Expo Indonesia 2026
  • Indonesia–Pakistan Investment Forum 2026
  • Connect Indonesia digital platform

Investment Climate and Business Facilitation

A virtual briefing by Nova Herlangga Masrie highlighted Indonesia’s investment reforms, incentives, Special Economic Zones, and simplified licensing procedures.

The Connect Indonesia platform was introduced as a single-window digital gateway for trade, investment, tourism, and business inquiries.


Investor Experience Shared

A Pakistani entrepreneur from Hyderabad shared his experience of establishing a business in Indonesia, stating that company registration was completed in under two weeks, reflecting improved ease of doing business.


Conclusion

The luncheon concluded with networking sessions and a group photo, reinforcing the commitment of both countries to deepen economic cooperation.

The Consulate General reaffirmed its goal of promoting practical, mutually beneficial commercial diplomacy between Indonesia and Pakistan.
