Indian Singer Nisar Wayanad Dies in Dubai Ahead of Concert

Indian singer Nisar Wayanad, whose voice was widely noted for its resemblance to that of Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan, has died at a hospital in Dubai at the age of 44.

Nisar, whose official name was Nissar Aroth Ibrahim, was from Kampalakkad in Kerala’s Wayanad district. He travelled to the United Arab Emirates in August for a series of musical programmes and was due to perform at an event in Ajman before his sudden death.

According to media reports, Nisar was admitted to hospital on Saturday afternoon after developing a high fever. His death has shocked the Malayali community in the UAE, where he had built a following through his musical performances.

He had also been scheduled to perform at further programmes in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

Reports citing his death notification said acidosis was listed as the direct cause of death, while systemic inflammatory response syndrome of infectious origin with organ failure was recorded as the leading cause. Septicaemia was listed as an underlying cause.

The medical description indicates that a severe infection triggered a widespread inflammatory response in the body, followed by organ failure and acidosis. Acidosis occurs when the body’s fluids become excessively acidic and can develop during severe illness or organ dysfunction.

Nisar was particularly known for performing Mappilapattu, a traditional style of Muslim folk music associated with Kerala’s Malabar region. He sang and appeared in several Mappila song albums and also worked as a playback singer.

His stage name, Nisar Wayanad, reflected his connection to his home district. He had previously shared the stage with Udit Narayan during a musical event in Bahrain.

His death, coming just hours before a scheduled performance, has prompted an outpouring of grief among fellow musicians and members of the Malayali community in the UAE.
