KARACHI: Students from Hamdard University launched a community-driven initiative to improve public safety by installing covers on open sewer manholes in different parts of Karachi.

The students collaborated with local repair team Fixit as part of a civic engagement project focused on reducing accidents and promoting social responsibility.

Students Identify Hazardous Areas

During the campaign, students identified dangerous locations with uncovered manholes across affected neighborhoods.

They also assisted the repair team in installing protective covers to help prevent accidents involving pedestrians and motorists.

In addition, the students spread awareness about the importance of community participation in maintaining safer public spaces.

Residents Praise Youth Effort

Local residents appreciated the initiative and described it as a positive example of youth involvement in social welfare activities.

Many citizens said open manholes remain a major safety hazard in Karachi, especially during rainfall and at night.

Residents also praised the students for taking practical steps to address an issue that affects daily life in the city.

Initiative Promotes Civic Responsibility

The project highlighted the growing role of students in community development and public service activities.

Participants said such efforts can encourage more young people to contribute toward building a safer and cleaner society.

The initiative also reflected the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and local community groups in solving civic problems.
