Eid Mubarak! Shawwal moon sighted across Pakistan

Islamabad: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Sunday evening announced that Eid-ul-Fitr would fall on Monday, March 31 as the Shawwal moon was sighted in various cities across country.

The moon was observed in Islamabad, Lahore and other cities, where citizens saw the moon with the naked eye. Zonal committee meetings were also held in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar. Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Abul Khabeer Azad stated that the Shawwal moon has been sighted, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on monday across Pakistan.

Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Abul Khabeer Azad thanked Allah for the blessings of Pakistan and prayed for the prosperity and development of the country.

He also mentioned that the Pakistan Armed Forces are playing a crucial role in the defense of the country, and urged everyone to pray for their success in combating terrorism. He asked the nation to remember the martyrs of the armed forces in their prayers.

Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr after the completion of the fasting month of Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.

The beginning of the ninth and holiest month in the Muslim calendar — as well as the Eid holidays and the mourning month of Muharram — is determined by the sighting of the new moon.
