Defence and Martyrs Day Observed Across Pakistan to Honour National Heroes

Pakistan is observing Defence and Martyrs Day today, September 6, to honour the supreme sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs and pay tribute to the Ghazis who defended the country with courage and valour.

The day reaffirms the nation’s commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests against all threats.

September 6 commemorates the historic events of 1965, when Indian forces crossed the international border under the cover of darkness and launched an attack on Pakistan. The Pakistan Armed Forces, backed by the nation, resisted the offensive and thwarted the enemy’s advance.

The day’s commemorations will begin with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital, while 21-gun salutes will be held in the provincial capitals.

Special prayers will also be offered in mosques after Fajr prayers for Pakistan’s peace, security, progress and prosperity. Prayers will also be offered for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The ceremonies and programmes are aimed at reminding the nation of the sacrifices made during the country’s defence and reinforcing the spirit of patriotism and national unity.
