Rawalpindi: Seven Indian-sponsored militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, while Captain Nauman Saleem among six Pakistan Army soldiers embraced martyrdom, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces launched the operation based on confirmed intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists linked to the outlawed group Khawarij. During the operation, the militants opened fire on the troops, prompting an intense exchange that left seven terrorists dead.

A large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the site, ISPR added.

Captain Nauman Saleem, a young medical officer from Mianwali district in Punjab, was among those who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The other martyrs include:

  • Havaldar Amjad Ali (39) — Swabi district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
  • Naik Waqas Ahmed (36) — Rawalpindi, Punjab
  • Sepoy Ijaz Ali (23) — Shikarpur district, Sindh
  • Sepoy Muhammad Waleed (23) — Jhelum district, Punjab
  • Sepoy Muhammad Shehbaz (32) — Khairpur district, Sindh

The ISPR said a clearance operation is ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants in the area. “Security forces remain resolute in their commitment to eradicate Indian-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan. The supreme sacrifices of our brave soldiers only strengthen our national resolve,” the statement said.
