Apple is reportedly working with LG on a new range of smart home products, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The reported lineup includes a video doorbell, security cameras, a smart lock, a thermostat and a temperature sensor.
The products are expected to carry LG branding. Apple’s exact role in their development remains unclear.
LG to Handle Production and Support
The reported products include the LG Video Doorbell Wired, LG Floodlight Cam, LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In, LG Smart Deadbolt Lock, LG Smart Thermostat and LG Temperature Sensor.
LG has recently sought regulatory approval for the devices from the FCC and UL Solutions.
Gurman reports that LG will handle manufacturing and product support. Apple is said to have played a role in developing the products.
Apple has used similar partnerships before. The company has worked with accessory makers such as Belkin and Logitech.
TikTok Accused of Giving Users Fake Safety Features in Experiments
This approach could help Apple expand its smart home ecosystem faster. It would also reduce the cost and complexity of manufacturing and supporting a wider range of accessories.
Apple could still influence product design and features. It could also oversee engineering while leaving most production responsibilities to its partner.
Smart Lock and Thermostat Details Emerge
A tipster on X has reportedly revealed designs for the LG Smart Deadbolt Lock and LG Smart Thermostat.
The smart lock is said to support automatic unlocking and tap-to-unlock functions. It also includes emergency power and master codes.
The lock reportedly supports 2.375-inch (60.3mm) and 2.75-inch (69.9mm) brackets. It is also expected to ship with two mechanical keys.
The thermostat reportedly includes several display and control options.
These include Far Sight Display, humidity display, brightness and language settings. It also includes calibrated temperature controls and temperature offset options.
Matter and Thread Support Expected
Many of the reported LG smart home products are expected to support modern connectivity standards.
These include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread and Matter.
The smart lock is also expected to support ultra-wideband, or UWB. That technology could enable its automatic unlocking feature when paired with compatible devices.
Matter and Thread support could also make the products easier to integrate with different smart home platforms.
Apple Products Could Arrive Later
The reported products are not expected to launch immediately.
Gurman says they will not arrive for at least a few more months.
Apple has not publicly announced the reported partnership or confirmed the product lineup.
If the reports prove accurate, the arrangement could give Apple a faster route into more areas of the smart home market.
It would also allow LG to manage manufacturing and support while Apple focuses on ecosystem integration and product development.
