The agreement emerged during a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and CMPak Chairman and CEO Huo Junli at the CM House on Thursday.

CMPak officials told the chief minister that the proposed facility would need significantly higher and uninterrupted electricity supplies than conventional telecom infrastructure.

The company therefore sought provincial support for an industrial power tariff, increased grid capacity, dual power feeds and priority facilitation for the project.

Sindh Government Offers Support

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah assured CMPak of the provincial government’s full support. He also directed relevant departments to review the company’s proposals and facilitate the project.

The proposals include shifting the electricity tariff from the commercial to the industrial category, increasing grid capacity and providing dual power connections to ensure greater reliability.

“We are ready to work with CMPak in partnership for the development of an AI-ready Tier-III data centre,” the chief minister said.

He added that such projects would help strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and technological capacity.

Karachi Eyeing Regional Tech Role

Murad said Sindh welcomed investments that could expand technological capabilities, generate high-value employment and strengthen Karachi’s position as a regional centre for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, data hosting and digital innovation.

He described digital infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth, innovation and competitiveness.

According to the chief minister, demand for data and cloud-based services is growing rapidly, while Karachi’s location and connectivity make it an attractive destination for technology infrastructure.

He said the future economy would increasingly depend on data, artificial intelligence and cloud technologies. The Sindh government, he added, would provide all possible support within its mandate to advance the project.

Zong Highlights Data Centre Potential

CMPak officials said the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Mobile Communications Corporation. They added that Zong serves more than 55 million subscribers in Pakistan and has invested over $3 billion in the country.

The company has also launched 5G services in more than 20 cities.

CMPak Chairman Huo Junli said the proposed Karachi data centre would become an important part of Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.

He said the facility would support secure local data hosting, advanced cloud services, AI infrastructure and digital transformation for businesses.

Furthermore, Huo said the centre would provide reliable infrastructure for government institutions, businesses and emerging technologies.

The meeting was attended by Special Assistant on IT Ali Rashid and Energy Secretary Shuhab Ansari.

CMPak representatives included Board Member and Chief Regulatory Officer Kamran Ali, Director Data Centre Construction Syed Ahmed Hassan and other senior officials.
